It took me years to really prepare myself for this, but here I am.
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Kei and I refer to myself as the "babedrawer". Let me just introduce myself briefly before we get started. I'm originally from Tokyo, Japan but have been living in New York for the past 11 years. I originally moved here to attend the School of Visual Arts, graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design and worked as a full-time designer until 2012. At one point I realized that I really wanted to pursue something else full-time: to draw.
As much as I enjoy illustrating my "babes" - this refers to anyone with character, applies to cute puppers as well, I've also learned to draw things outside of my "comfort zone". Managed to completely fell in love with playing with color (try drawing a kale leaf or a brick building!). This opened up so many doors in order to be comfortable enough to call me my own boss.
I'd love to share this with you.
I am not an eloquent writer, so you may spot some cringe worthy grammatical errors here and there. You've probably noticed that by this point but I'm hoping the visual content could make you look past (most of) it.
Speaking of content. I've had more than enough time to brainstorm but here's what I could name off the top of my head. Tutorials, "work in progress" shots, what art school taught me, what art school didn't teach me, what it takes to get your work out there... The list goes on.
First question for you: What's something you want to see?
